About the Mini-Symposium

SymposiumBanner800.jpg

The NAFSE Fire & Fire History Working Group is hosting its second mini-symposium. The event will take place on Monday, October 6, 2025 from 11:00 AM - 12:30 PM EDT.

With this event, we bring together fire researchers and practitioners to share their work, knowledge, and passion. We hope you can join us for a series of short presentations, Q & A and (time permitting) further discussion.

Our speakers will cover a range of topics, including the historic to contemporary interaction between fire and key species such as pitch pine and red oak, and some of the paleoecology techniques used in reconstructing vegetation history. Our speakers are as follows...

- Drew Barton (University of Maine) on long-term fire and land use dynamics in coastal Maine pitch pine.

- Andrea Nurse (University of Maine) on palynology (fossil pollen) for land use management.

- Matthew Vadeboncoeur (University of New Hampshire) on the role of fire in northern red oak recruitment and establishment.

We expect an hour of presentations followed by moderated Q & A. We hope to see you there!
