April 23, 2026 - As wildfires become an increasing risk across Europe, the need for cross-border cooperation and specialised training has become increasingly evident. This presentation from Aaron Arneke offered insights into the evolving European fire landscape from the perspective of a practitioner involved with Germany's specialised voluntary wildfire organisations. It explored how these entities enhance the operational readiness of local fire departments by sharing tactical knowledge and establishing critical fire analysis capabilities. Expanding to a global perspective, the session introduced the International Association of Wildland Fire (IAWF) as a platform for international networking and idea exchange. Particular focus was given to the IAWF Mentoring Program, showcasing how expert guidance and the cultivation of a collaborative, international community empower students and early-career practitioners to navigate modern wildfire challenges.
